indescribable realm of timbila (wild beautiful buzzing xylophone of Mozambique)
played in our particular "East Village" style!
Nora Balaban - timbila, mbira, vocals
Banning Eyre - guitar
Dirck Westervelt - bass
Louisa Bradshaw - vocals
Gary Pozner - percussion, vocals
Ed Klinger - drums
TIMBILA is the traditional xylophone of the Chopi people of Mozambique.
When Nora Balaban heard its wild rhythms and buzzing overtones, she found
the energy and excitement of her other favorite music: rock 'n' roll.
The group Timbila fuses those ideas. With drums, bass, guitar, percussion
and vocals harmonies, Nora's timbila playing cuts a path from rural Mozambique
to the East Village.
