THE SHARK SHOW
The
Shark Show, downtown’s long running comedy and variety show ( www.thesharkshow.com),
hosts their second annual Battle of the Funny Bands at Mo Pitkin’s House
of Satisfaction this April. The Goal? To find the funniest band in all of the
land. Their Prize? Oh, nothing much. Just some nice money, a kick-ass trophy,
the title of "Most hilarious music man/band/person alive" (which looks
awesome on resumes), and a rocketship*. The Competition? BOFB III!
Here’s how it works: The Shark Show (Nick Stevens, Gabe McKinley, Ari
Voukydis, and Dan Gaba gather 12 of New York’s best young musical comedy
talent together on April 7th and April 14th for two preliminary rounds. On each
night, the 7th and the 14th, 6 acts perform a 2-song set. Once all 6 acts have
performed, the audience votes for their 2 favorites, with the top 2 vote receiving
acts from the 7th and the 14th advancing to the 21st to fight another funny
musical day.
Then, on April 21st we have a bare knuckles fight for musical comedy supremacy
judged by our panel of famous celebrities (we don’t like to name drop,
but Wink Martindale was sent an invitation.) There are a lot of comedy shows
in New York, but only one has the balls (8 actually) to pull off an event of
this comedic and musical magnitude without the involvement of Jack Black or
Nathan Lane!
Paper Magazine called the Shark Show 'a variety show of the pre-TV
era with a modern sensibility, an Ed Sullivan show where there's always blood
in the water.' TimeOut New York recommends The Shark Show weekly to
their readers, and The New York Post has written about us TWICE! Twice,
we tell you, TWICE!
