SHTS spawned on the streets of NYC. The members, already being accomplished in the classical & jazz worlds, came together to write music which is a culmination of their tastes. Incorporating elements of jazz, classical, funk, ambience, & electronic, this band has a highly innovative sound, & it's just good sounding music.
Together, we create an interesting sound, one that blends rock influences like Radiohead & Coldplay with jazz/funk basslines & rhythms. Our diverse sound comes from each of our own musical endeavours outside of this band. Gabe is a 12 year-trained classical guitarist with a love for Bossa Nova & other South American music. He recently placed 1st for instrumental composition in the Bertlesmann BMI World of Expression Competition. Sasha Winn is a classically trained vocalist who has sung opera for four years but has recently shifted his primary focus to singing in a rock setting. David is a jazz bassist who plays upright in addition to his five-string electric bass. With a fantastic ear & regular jazz gigs, David makes an invaluable contribution to the shape of our sound. Vasu is a classical pianist who has been playing for 6 years. He recently won the concerto competition at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts playing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto # 2. His classical background adds another interesting color to the already diverse sound. Reuben is a jazz & funk drummer with extensive experience playing vibes & timpani in addition to the drumkit. His full & interactive drumlines serve well to bring together the different styles which make up our sound. A mix of high school seniors & college freshmen, we are all very devoted to our craft & plan on playing together for a long time.
