LAURA
THOMAS BAND
RIT'MO COLLECTIVE

Funky & fierce, the Laura Thomas Band is a New York group with a sound like no one else in the industry. The LTB combines the power of rock & funk with probing lyrics & emotional songwritng. Textured by a fiery violin & a multi-layered guitar, the band is led by Laura’s powerhouse vocals. Laura sings with Ani Difranco's tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Alanis Morissette's sheer, clear power, the sultriness of Norah Jones. The result is an audio-shock of emotional truth. Village Voice recently praised Laura for her 'thick-skinned song-poems in jazzoid rhythms.' Washington Post said that 'Her voice is capable of tracing melodies as sinuous as the Rock Creek Parkway, & she has a soft spot for writing tender, compassionate or introspective ballads that help set her apart from the rant'n'roll crowd.' Over the past 3 years, the Laura Thomas Band has taken the stage across the country, from San Francisco to New York, packing to the hilt such prestigious venues as the Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, & Joe’s Pub, among others. In 2002 Laura co-produced her first album, On My Sleeve, followed by her '04 release, Slow. In September '05, the band released its first full-band album, Step to the Wire, featuring the song Blind Trinity, a political allegory about the Bush administration's foreign policy. Laura's biting, crafty lyrics, massive voice, & passionate, proficient band make for an emotionally charged show. |
Founded by composer/multi-instrumentalist Chris Farrell, the Rit'Mo Collective draws upon elements of contemporary jazz, Americana, and classical Indian music to create cinematic soundscapes. Eastern rhythms meet Western harmonies in this multi-faceted group of accomplished instrumentalists. |
