LALO: FOIUR MALLET DREAM
![]() |
“Lalo: four mallet dream,” pronounced John Ephland in the November 2006 issue of Downbeat. “Lalo has injected some rock vitality into the vibraphone, an instrument most often associated with straight-ahead jazz,” proclaimed host Liane Hansen during a feature interview on NPR Weekend Edition Sunday. Keyboardist Michael Bellar, bassist Rob Jost, and drummer Jordan Perlson complete the quartet that promotes the kind of musical exploration that has inspired such rave reviews. “Lalo’s music exists as a playground made of sound,” read a Jazz Times magazine feature on the vibraphonist. Tad Hendrickson of JazzWeek wrote of Lalo’s 2006 release, Half Moon, “There is a willingness throughout this disc to think outside the box, yet the leader's compositions are still filled with a strong sense of lyricism and melody...an altogether winning album.” |
