Joe
Hurley is the singer of two NYCity bands, Rogue's March & The Gents.
With Rogue's March he has released several critically acclaimed CDs over
the last decade & performed Mainstage on the Warped Tour & Guinness
Fleadhs.
Hurley's ballad Amsterdam Mistress appears on the new Sony records
compilation Whiskey in the Jar-Essential Irish Drinking Songs &
Singalongs alongside legends like the Clancy Brothers & The Dubliners.
He has also recorded with producers ranging from Tony Visconti to PJ Harvey,
sung duets with Marianne Faithfull, Amy Rigby, & Shane Macgowan, &
has toured with bands ranging frm Cracker to Flogging Molly.
Last summer he performed at Central Park Summerstage, where he & Teddy
Thompson were the featured guest vocalists for the Nick Drake concert
. He is a 13 year member of the famed Loser's Lounge institution, singing
at 100s of shows from Westbeth to Lincoln Center, from Bacharach to Costello,
& has released his own Live Cd from these events
Hurley has just returned from London where his CD single Bleeding
Claret & Blue about West Ham Football Club was released in May.
This show will be his first NYC appearance since his Bowery Ballroom show
on St Pat's day.
Village Voice wrote that 'Hurley is the best singer of vowels
in rock since Shane MacGowan,& he's got fire behind those puppy eyes,'
calling him 'one of New York's most entertaining frontmen-his distinctive
vocals can be raucous as all get-out and as sorrowful as a baritone can
be'
For tonight's gig, he will be joined by Chris Flynn, James Mastro, &other
special guests, & will be playing a selection of songs from his forthcoming
Solo CD as well as old Rogue's March favourites.
