JEREMIAH LOCKWOOD

Born and raised into a family of musicians in New York City, Jeremiah Lockwood has been haunting the streets and subways of New York City with his guitar since the early nineties. After meeting Piedmont blues master Carolina Slim at a street fair in 1993, the two began performing together regularly in the subway system. Jeremiah and Carolina Slim have been written about in numerous publications both locally and abroad and have appeared at venues including Avery Fisher Hall and the Tisch Auditorium at the New School.
American Primitive is Jeremiah’s first solo album and his first attempt to capture on record the ethos of his subway and street performance. The music on this record distills an intimate knowledge of American traditional music through the particular spiritual and psychological vantage point of urban living and the world of street performance.
The album, produced by Stuart Bogie (Egyptian Brain Surgery Productions), also features the talents of guest artists who represent some of the best of what New York City’s music scene had to offer. It is an album containing a broad area of Americana sounds. The music pierces forward in a straight line, embracing both tenderness and dirt.
