JEFF SOLOMON
GRETCHEN WITT

Jeff Solomon, one of the only musicians who can call New York his home, writes songs that pop with quirk, funk, & class. His solo shows, which find him switching off between piano & baritone ukulele, have been attracting large & attentive audiences since 2003. Jeff studied sax & composition at Cornell University under the guidance of Steven Stucky (2005 Pulitzer for Music). He soon began using his training to turn unconventional chord structures into hooks, pairing them with playful lyrics that twist & braid multiple meanings into a rope... of... words... Jeff became a regular on the Ithaca music circuit, performing as a saxophonist in four bands & playing singer/songwriter gigs opening for indie poppers such as Ari Hest. In 2002, Jeff & four other Cornell alums formed the popular sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, which recently sold out the entire three-month run of its latest show & was called 'a hilarious multimedia mix of the deadpan & the maniacal' by the New York Times. He serves as EL’s resident composer & songwriter, which keeps him busy along with session work as an arranger, saxophonist, & keyboardist.

Gretchen Witt grew up aahwl-sweet-n-peachy in the nice countryside of Ohio before moving at age 18 to the barbarous streets of NYC where she soon thereafter developed culture shock. It’s been a great shock. She graduated from Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Drama, an education during which she scribbled lots of rhymes (where she should’ve scribbled exam notes) on the corners of her classroom notebooks. Compelled to perform original material, she decided to reroute her knack for performance towards songwriting. She has studied classical piano for eight years, has recently taken up the guitar, & has sung under her breath (to the annoyance of nearby others) all of her life. No one has yet, since this joyous departure into songwriting, been able to pull her away from the strings, the keys, or lyric-inspiring pencil set. Her first publication is now out: a 5-track EP! Her vocal style is frequently compared to that of Alison Krauss, Natalie Merchant, & Tracy Chapman, however her style remains unique. The lyrics of each song have been widely agreed upon as the cornerstone of her work. Come to a show & listen closely!
