Jim
BIanco has spent the last 2 years touring the US and the UK and JAPAN
by himself and as part of the HOTEL CAFE TOUR. His latest release "HANDSOME
DEVIL" was acclaimed by Billboard magazine as "Full of bawdy
horns and lusty percussion, "Handsome Devil" is something of
a naughty musical". Having songs placed on HBO, BRAVo and the feature
films WAITRESS and SHERRYBABY, bianco has been in the studio and on tour
throughout this summer. |
Meiko
is one of the most promising singer-songwriters to emerge from the Los
Angeles music scene in recent years. Counting among her influences artists
as diverse as Patty Griffin, Sade, and Portishead, Meiko has managed to
create songs of sweet disquiet that are all her own. |

Singer/songwriter Tom McRae credits his upbringing for leading him to a career in music. While growing up in Chelmsford, near Suffolk, his parents were vicars in the Church of England & McRae sang in the choir. His mother played guitar &, as a teen, he'd borrow it. When his sisters were listening to Kate Bush & U2, McRae followed and began buying records. He also started to become serious about music. At age 18, he went off to Guild Hall University to study music politics, soon forming bands & writing songs. A chance meeting with sound engineer Roger Bechirian (Elvis Costello, Squeeze, Carlene Carter) led him to a working relationship. He & Bechirian shaped McRae's soft-spoken sound, which later yanked him a deal with Mercury's db Records. Tom McRae's confessional self-titled debut appeared in fall 2001 & earned him comparisons to Nick Drake & Bob Dylan. Critics raved & McRae also a gained Mercury Music Prize nomination the same year. In 2003 Just Like Blood hit shelves & the next year he moved to California, where he recorded his third full-length, All Maps Welcome, that was released in 2005. Two years later King of Cards, recorded back near Suffolk, came out. |

My name is Greg Laswell. Bio-Shmio. What if I talk about a few of my songs instead? And when it is natural & called for, perhaps I will throw in a few fun facts. My latest album, Through Toledo starts with a song called Sing Theresa Says. Inspired by my na-na Theresa who I dreamed told me to 'sing happy things' during the most difficult time in my life, the song is equal parts bouncy & buoyant (like my late na-na) & pensive & wistful (like yours truly). At the time I was quite in shock over the dissolution of my marriage & I stole away into my recording studio to find solace, quite sore & sentimental, but with enough stubbornness to re-emerge with an album, one that a year later would be picked up by Vanguard Records. Cut to the title-track Through Toledo. Two dear friends of mine decided to move to Toledo in order to augment their chances of ending up in New York or LA. They were quite comfortable in San Diego with a wonderful circle of friends, great jobs, & a beautiful house & moving would prove to be a risk both personally & emotionally. I remember them saying 'we need to go through Toledo to get where we want to be.' I immediately asked myself what my Toledo is. I wasn't sure for a while. I think I am now. |

“Kate Havnevik has a unique voice, which explores both the very deep and high reaches of her extraordinary vocal range. Her music is melodic, occasionally dramatic, but always very cool. With a touch of programming mixed with conventionally recorded instruments she creates the perfect soundscape to dress her songs and voice.” – SF STATION |
