EAST RIVER STRING BAND

This band was created in 2002 out of a busking band that played in Washington Square Park with Bliss Blood singing and playing guitar. Bliss has worked with many musicians, incorporating mandolin, fiddle, steel guitar, tuba, drums, guitar, harmonica, piano, and bass. Currently joining Bliss (vocals and tenor guitar) are Mike Neer of THE MOONLIGHTERS on lap steel, dobro, six-string banjo and accoustic guitar, Timothy Dick on piano, and Ernesto Gomez on harmonica. They play Delta blues and "Classic" female vocal blues from the 1920's-40's era including songs by Bessie Smith, Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Ma Rainey, Bo Carter, Mississippi Sheiks, Memphis Minnie, Victoria Spivey,. Merline Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Papa Charlie Jackson, and Blind Blake. Enter the forgotten world of the Delta!

John Heneghan began playing guitar at age five & became completely bitter & jaded about the idea of trying to play any kind of modern music very soon thereafter. The only band of note that John has played in is Oatmeal Banana, which after enjoying a brief stint of success in the mid 90s, was quickly crushed by the downtown music scene & disolved quietly into obscurity. Being unable to co-exist with modern man, John decided to form his dream band with Eden, The East River String Band, in 2004. ERSB is the only band he can really enjoy playing in due his brutal contempt for all modern music.
At age six, Eden Brower starred in an off off off off-Broadway production of Annie playing no one less than that delightful little orphan with curly red hair herself. Her family, thoroughly convinced that this role would lead to an illustrious career jam packed with fame & fortune, regrettably quit their jobs and prepared to live off the unlimited wealth their talented middle daughter would surely soon produce. Twenty four years later Eden landed her second singing job in the ERSB where she sings like a 1920's barrelhouse angel.
