DAN LIPTON

Songwriter, arranger, & ace keyboard player Dan Lipton is a musical chameleon whose work bridges pop music, film scoring, & theatrical projects. He has performed on three Grammy-nominated albums, most recently the actor John Lithgow's album for children, The Sunny Side of the Street, featuring Madeleine Peyroux & Maude Maggart. His piano playing can be heard nightly on the recorded soundtrack for the epic Tom Stoppard trilogy The Coast of Utopia at Lincoln Center. Lipton plays in concert halls & with symphonies across the country, accompanying Nonesuch Records artist Audra McDonald. In 2006, he appeared with her at the White House & Carnegie Hall. On the other side of the musical spectrum, he plays synth & sings backup with indie rocker Matthew Pop... he appears on the new album from feminist hip-hop trio Northern State... he backs the raunchy girl-on-girl duo TastiSkank. Dan Lipton is also music director for the hit comedy show Don't Quit Your Night Job at Joe's Pub. Lipton's eclectic songwriting has earned 4 ASCAPlus Awards for Popular Music. His most recent recording is Zeitgeist, an album of genre-hopping collaborations with the most exciting young musicians in classical, pop, jazz, & theatrical music. Featured guests include jazz trumpeter Michael Leonhart, opera singer Valerie MacCarthy, carnival rock band The Misconceptions, & Nonesuch recording artist Audra McDonald.

On March 22, Dan Lipton brings his band to Mo Pitkin's: drummer Damien Bassman (Tom Kitt Band, Kevin Cahoon) and Nicholas D'Amato (Popa Chubby, Royal Society, Marwood) on bass, with Peter Sachon (Pink Martini, Dee Snider) on electric cello. Special set guests include Michael Leonhart on trumpet and redheaded guitar gal Emily Easterly, along with her drummer Sarab Singh
