Clara Lofaro, Winner of Indie Week Toronto 2006, is destined to become a household name as the buzz spreads about her music in the U.S. and Canada, with a charging fan base in her twin home towns of Toronto and New York City. “Influenced by artists such as Annie Lennox, Patty Griffin and Bill Withers, Lofaro’s music is hard to pigeonhole, and blends several genres including soul, rock and jazz. Her songs are laced with soulful grooves, and her vocals ooze with both vulnerability and defiance.” - Amanda B. Haupt, METRO TORONTO
Lofaro now runs her own independent label, ComeTrue Records, Inc., under which she released her self-produced sophomore masterpiece, Black & Blue Pearl, a top-seller on CD Baby. It is currently spinning on WLIR commercial radio and college radio across the Northeast. “One True Thing” was recently chosen as “1 Song of the Year” for 2006 on Ithaca’s 106 VIC Radio by listener poll. In 2007, CL will be performing at Bamboozle Festival at Giants Stadium. She is the voice of Disney's famous "What's Next" commercial airing every year after the Super Bowl for the past twenty years. Clara and her band won against 367 other bands in Toronto for Indie Music Week in October 2006.
Lofaro’s artistic talents and ambition earned a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. There, musicians, producers and film composers sought after her deeply powerful vocals, songwriting ability, and charismatic personality. She wrote songs and lyrics in various styles ranging from jazz to pop to jingles. CL was a desired vocalist for session work, and played the Boston club scene with musicians like Rie Tsuji (keys, Beyonce), Mathias Kunzli (percussion, Lauryn Hill) and John Shannon (guitar, Sonya Kitchell). In college, early tracks for her first album, Night Light were recorded with some of the world’s best musicians.
“Every once in a while, there’s a refreshing break from the monotony of Top 50 pop and Clara Lofaro is one of them.” -Noah Ruede, THE AQUARIAN
A musically versatile artist, she effortlessly transitions from self-penned infectious pop ditties to emotionally heavier songs during her live shows. Her songwriting style and broad range are uniquely captivating as her audience stands transfixed through an entire performance or CD listen. Lofaro truly loves her hard-won fan base, and each heartfelt performance is guaranteed to ensure they leave knowing it.
