BASEMENT BAND
JONES STREET BOYS

Basementband is brooklyn-based, alt.country trio whose music ranges from aggressive, bluegrass romps to hushed, folkie-ballads. Their acoustic instrumentation creates an energetic, rhythmic base on top of which they deliver honest lyrics in three-part vocal harmony. Though still developing and refining their musical approach, the young band is eager to bring their songs to enthusiastic ears.

Started in 2003 by Danny Erker & Jonathan Hull of Brooklyn bluegrass collective, The Cobble Hillbillies, JSB are a result of years of exploring various types of American music. The two musicians met at a bluegrass jam in 2001, & after years of playing traditional bluegrass, they started writing songs that were outside the genre, so a new band was formed with just the two of them & six instruments: banjo, dobro, harmonica, mandolin, guitar, accordion. The project then took on a whole new life with the addition of Jonathan Benedict-keyboards, piano, vocals; Walter Wells-bass, guitars, vocals; and Robbie Jones-drums, flamenco cajon, percussion; & the scope of the sound grew by leaps & bounds. The result is a project steeped in roots of American music with a focus on songwriting, story-telling, harmony singing, & musicianship.
